Summary:

In this vital role you will be responsible for supporting process development and technical transfer of our synthetic drug substance manufacturing processes through lab management of the High-Pressure Development Lab (HPDL), acting as equipment and instrument owner, and leading inventory maintenance and chemical/equipment ordering and shipping. The HPDL is integral to the design, optimization, and development of key and enabling chemical transformations for pharmaceutical development. This enabling capability within the DSTS organization critically supports programs across all stages of development, including route selection, process optimization, and process characterization.

Responsibilities:

Routine user support for experiments:
  • Act as superuser of all high-pressure development equipment.
  • Provide hands-on training and oversight for new users and refresher training to previous users.
  • Enable safe execution for high-pressure operation with dual users.
  • Represent organization within a multi-functional team to ensure deliverables are aligned with timeline, such that key achievements are established and achieved.
  • Author, review, and/or approve of process documentation needed for equipment management and experimental activities.

Equipment upkeep and maintenance:
  • Coordinate equipment scheduling for new experiment requests.
  • Submit work orders, independently manage equipment maintenance and support equipment troubleshooting.
  • Support preventative maintenance operations related to lab equipment and utilities, including, but not limited to, rupture disc, chiller equipment.
  • Monitor reactive gas inventory, coordinate gas reservoir refills and cylinder replacements.
  • Lead lab inventory management including monitoring usage, ordering, and restocking of consumables.
  • Establish management system for equipment replacement parts and maintain stock.
  • Expertise with lab equipment handling and repair to troubleshoot challenges.

Lab improvements and knowledge management format:
  • Support efforts for lab upgrades and optimization.
  • Support authoring of training documentation for lab operations and equipment.
  • Monitor training compliance and coordinate training refreshers through our training system.
  • Participate in and curate content for core and steering team meetings.
  • Participate in EHSS risk assessments / periodic reviews acting as SME.
  • Coordinate mitigations resulting from RAs and reviews.
  • Work closely with process development chemists and engineers to generate and interpret data to provide improved understanding and guidance for high-pressure chemistry development.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Master degree

OR
  • Bachelor degree and 2 years of experience

OR
  • Associate degree and 6 years of experience

OR
  • High school diploma / GED and 8 years of experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • An ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering with 2 years of lab experience. The candidate will work under the supervision of the HPDL Owners and will be onsite lab support. The candidate will work in a team environment collaborating with various colleagues in process development including process chemists and analytical chemists, as well as cross-functional collaboration with Environmental, Health, Safety, & Sustainability, Facilities & Engineering, lab management, and third-party vendors. This is a lab-based role requiring interest, skills, and motivation for advancing lab activities and management with wide impact.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast-paced team environment to ensure continuity, efficiency, and reliability of lab operations.
  • Command of chemical lab operations and associated safety practices.
  • Excellent presentation, written and verbal skills.
  • Knowledge of basic office software including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

 

Pay range is $31 - $36 per hour with full benefits available, including paid time off, medical/dental/vision/life insurance, 401K, parental leave, and more. Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. Pay is based on several factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
