Job Description
We are seeking a talented Linguistic Engineer to enhance our Machine Learning efforts. In this role, you will focus on ensuring ML annotation quality and throughput to support ML modeling needs and advance the AI strategy.
Your responsibilities will include assessing the needs of diverse AI projects alongside engineering teams, developing clear guidelines for annotation tasks to ensure their success, collecting high-quality data and recommending process improvements. You will prepare, transform, and combine data to improve annotation tasks and build prototypes to explore innovative ways to increase our output. You will also collaborate with cross-functional teams to produce consistent language products across various dialects and languages.
You will work closely with stakeholders such as engineers, annotation team supervisors, product managers, data scientists and analytics to facilitate effective communication between the various parties and ensure annotation teams deliver high quality annotated data.
This position requires a deep understanding of language, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work effectively with diverse teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Task Design:
Design data collection and creation tasks in response to specific needs.
Author clear and comprehensive instructions for annotation teams.
Define and implement quality targets and mechanisms for data collection.
Take responsibility for the final deliverables of data collection tasks.
Data Analysis:
Analyze and extract language-related insights from collected data to inform ML model development and improvement.
Prototyping:
Build prototypes for data analysis or data authoring using Python or another scripting language to streamline processes.
Functionality Testing:
Bootstrap or test new functionalities related to language data annotation and analysis.
Collaboration:
Collaborate closely with scientists and engineers to evaluate the performance of language models, providing insights and recommendations for improvements.
Request Management:
Handle competing requests from a range of data customers, prioritizing tasks effectively to meet deadlines.
Skills: Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Linguistics, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
Proven experience in language processing, data annotation, or related roles.
Effective communication skills, with the ability to author clear and actionable guidelines.
Familiarity with machine learning concepts and methodologies.
Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to extract insights from complex data sets.
Acquainted with fundamental data handling methods and tools, including version control systems, unit testing, and other best practices in programming.
Proficiency in accessing data and organizing data via SQL or manipulating data in Excel / Gsheets.
Willingness to get into the details of how CS agents think, work, and navigate complexity of workflows or processes Strong organizational and project management skills, with experience coordinating multiple tasks simultaneously.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Preferred Qualifications:
Proven comprehensive knowledge of how data interacts with machine learning models to enhance linguists' impact on ML initiatives.
Experience with scripting endeavors that entail integrating language data from diverse origins, and computing metrics on extensive datasets.
Proficiency in Python or another scripting language for data manipulation and analysis.
Experience working with operational/agent teams.
Fluency or working proficiency in two or more spoken languages.
Familiarity with ethical AI practices that ensure and maintain privacy, safety, integrity, and fairness in AI applications.

Pay range is $57.07 - $62.07 per hour with full benefits available, including paid time off, medical/dental/vision/life insurance, 401K, parental leave, and more. Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. Pay is based on several factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
