Research Assistant IV
Summary:
Our company brings together a world-class team of researchers, developers, and engineers to create virtual sounds that are perceptually indistinguishable from reality, and redefining human hearing. These two initiatives will help us to connect people by allowing them to feel together despite being physically apart, and allow them to converse in even the most difficult listening environments.
As a Research Assistant IV, your key responsibilities are to facilitate the smooth collection of data and ensure strict compliance with documentation for research studies involving human participants. You will be at the heart of both in-person and remote studies, taking charge of their organization, planning, execution, and data collection. Working with our staff, you will ensure that every aspect of the study setup and protocols aligns with industry-leading standards of safety, privacy, and security.
In this role, you'll have the exciting opportunity to assist research scientists with experimental infrastructure and execution, spearhead large-scale user studies, and inspire other Research Assistant team members through your guidance and training. Duties:
- Assisting lead researchers in executing experiments involving human subjects.
- Preparing and setting up equipment for studies, coordinating with engineers, equipment vendors, safety evaluators, and the research team to ensure proper setup.
- Understanding the study's objectives and background, and executing the study. This involves learning new and evolving technologies, screening participants, obtaining consent, ensuring participant privacy, and guiding participants through study procedures.
- Providing study support services such as data collection, onsite handling, participant compensation tracking, and equipment tracking.
- Assisting in participant recruitment and scheduling activities.
- Piloting experiments, making observations, and providing feedback to optimize study procedures.
- Collecting, storing, transferring, and analyzing study data.
- Writing and submitting Institutional Review Board (IRB) documents and amendments.
- Researching technologies and equipment to facilitate experiments.
- Assisting with experimental design and providing feedback before studies.
- Summarizing literature.
- Purchasing study supplies.
- Assisting in onboarding new Research Assistants, including shadowing and serving as a point of contact for questions about standard tasks, software, and tools.
- Training new Research Assistants on research apparatuses and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Self-starter, the capacity to work autonomously, demonstrating robust time management skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, coupled with problem-solving abilities, meticulous attention to detail, and excellent interpersonal skills.
- The ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders, and to interpret and communicate research findings and insights.
- A good understanding of information technology, including filesystems, secure shell (ssh), and experience with spreadsheet applications. Proficiency in using Windows, Linux, or MacOS (both command line and GUI) is required.
- Prior research experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Some knowledge of scripting and/or coding, preferably with experience in Matlab, Python, JavaScript, or other languages.
- Familiarity with project management methodologies and project tracking.
- Co-authorship on scientific publication or conference abstract.
