Job Description

Research Collaborator III
Onsite

Summary:

At our company, our goal is to explore, innovate and design novel interfaces and hardware subsystems for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. Our team of researchers is evaluating novel interaction techniques and user interfaces to improve human experiences in the augmented world. We are looking for a motivated Study Coordinator to join our team and support the human subject research studies we are conducting. The chosen candidates will work with a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of researchers and engineers and will have access to cutting edge technology, resources, and testing facilities. We are specifically looking for candidates with experience in supporting human behavioral experiments.

Virtual Reality Audio Research at our company brings together a world-class team of researchers, developers, and engineers to create virtual sounds that are perceptually indistinguishable from reality, and redefining human hearing. These two initiatives will help us to connect people by allowing them to feel together despite being physically apart, and allow them to converse in even the most difficult listening environments.

We are seeking someone to manage our user studies and data processing efforts in support for research programs across both initiatives. Ideal candidates will have strong skills in behavioral data collection, experimental and survey research, study participant scheduling, and debriefing. They will also be excellent communicators, knowledgeable about user research, institutional review board procedures, and passionate about human perceptual research. They should also be comfortable in a flat, fast moving organization, excited to collaborate, and focused squarely on impacting audio experiences in AR and VR. They will participate in developing research studies, data collection methods, and data management for a variety of concurrently running studies. Duties will also include ensuring that studies have the appropriate level of research assistant support, overseeing participant recruitment, coordinating facilities and equipment usage, and coordinating with the activities of the larger audio team and research organization.

As a Study Coordinator, your key responsibilities are to facilitate the smooth collection of data and ensure strict compliance with documentation for research studies involving human participants. You will be at the heart of both in-person and remote studies, taking charge of their organization, planning, execution, and data collection. Working with our staff, you will ensure that every aspect of the study setup and protocols aligns with industry-leading standards of safety, privacy, and security.

Duties:
  • User Studies
  • Work closely with researchers on user study design and implementation, and coordinate formal initiation of new user studies including those requiring IRB certification.
  • Maintain active user study programs, including updates to user study protocols, materials, and program documentation.
  • Coordinate the user study approval processes, which includes coordinating IRB approvals, extensions, and reviews.
  • Communicate about research activities through written updates or multi-media content produced for sharing on internal communication platforms.
  • Coordinate assignment of research assistants to user studies, track progress, and help to unblock studies when problems arise.
  • Assist with participant recruiting, scheduling facilities, and equipment procurement for user studies.
  • Keep the broader team informed of changes to user study policies.
  • Generate team performance metrics and create reports on progress to highlight improvement areas.
  • Help train new research assistants joining the team.

Skills:
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in a research environment involving human subjects
  • Experience with coordinating and getting approvals for behavioral experiments with human participants
  • Experience working on and submitting IRB documentation as well as maintaining IRB studies
  • Tools: MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Visio, Project, Sharepoint, Wiki, Google Workspace, Jira, Confluence or similar systems
  • Project management experience
  • Ability to facilitate effective meetings with a clear purpose and agenda
  • Ability to work with researchers, engineers, and cross functional team members to see what needs to be done and propose novel solutions
  • Ability to provide clear communications and communications materials
  • Strong sense of ethical responsibility and respect for human privacy rights

Education:
  • BA in English, BA/BS in Scientific field such as Psychology, Cognitive Science, HCI, HCDE, or education in Audio related fields such as Linguistics, Speech and Hearing Science, or Audiology.

Pay range is $34 - $39 per hour with full benefits available, including paid time off, medical/dental/vision/life insurance, 401K, parental leave, and more. Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. Pay is based on several factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
