Summary:

The Virtual Reality Research Team brings together a world-class team of researchers, developers, and engineers to create the future of virtual and augmented reality, which together will become as universal and essential as smartphones and personal computers are today. Just as personal computers have done over the past 45 years, AR and VR will ultimately change everything about how we work, play, and connect. We are developing all the technologies needed to enable breakthrough AR glasses and VR headsets, including optics and displays, computer vision, audio, graphics, brain-computer interfaces, haptic interaction, eye/hand/face/body tracking, perception science, and true telepresence. In particular, the VR Research Audio team is focused on two goals; creating virtual sounds that are perceptually indistinguishable from reality, and redefining human hearing. These two initiatives will allow us to connect people by allowing them to feel together despite being physically apart, and allow them to converse in even the most difficult listening environments. We are seeking a contract UX Researcher to help us advance an ambitious research project aiming to develop technologies that will augment human capabilities and enable effortless communication in acoustically challenging environments.

The main function of a UX Researcher is to conduct research studies with human subjects. The UXR is responsible for the set-up, implementation and data collection for in-person and remote studies. They will need to work with our staff to ensure that the study equipment set up and the study conduct follows all applicable safety plans. This is a senior-level UXR position with increased responsibility for driving research studies, including owning experimental design, conducting user studies and collecting data, analyzing data, and creating reports with findings and recommendations for the research and product teams. This researcher will work closely with our Health and Wellbeing team to implement product research that will influence product design in the short, medium, and long term.

Research is paramount to this success - formative research is needed to identify the right latent needs or problems in the world to tackle with product solutions, iterative design research is needed to mold early product ideas into testable prototypes, and creative evaluative research is needed to improve and prepare those products for market.

Responsibilities:
  • Be the principal investigator and own study completion, including implementation of experiments involving human subjects as well as survey design.

Skills Required:
  • Collaborate closely with researchers, designers, PMs & engineers to identify, define and deliver meaningful products into the world
  • Collaboratively and independently develop and execute research roadmaps
  • Lead various research studies throughout all the phases of the product development cycle
  • Contribute to product strategy, execution and go-to-market plan
  • Manage research vendors to help augment the work of the research team
  • Strong ability to work independently and manage one’s time.
  • Experience with data and utilizing numbers to define and support hypotheses
  • Experience with storytelling to get traction with various audience
  • Experience with autonomy and decision making to balance competing demands

Optional/preferred:
  • Some knowledge of coding (e.g., with R, Python, JavaScript, command line, or other languages)

Education:
  • Course work or lab experience in the following sub-areas: speech perception/production, psycholinguistics, hearing science, language-focused cognitive psychology, auditory neuroscience, social science, psychology, and similar

Desired Experience:
  • Any experience with cognitive, behavioral, or physiological domains focused on speech/sound perception and hearing sciences

 

Pay range is $57 - $62 per hour with full benefits available, including paid time off, medical/dental/vision/life insurance, 401K, parental leave, and more. Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. Pay is based on several factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
